Carol said you'd like some background info on the car. Here goes:

I bought the car from the Audi/Porsche dealer in Fairfield CT. It was technically "new" although the guy who owned the dealership had been using it personally, trying to decide whether he want it or a Porsche. My son, Justin, who at that time was about 11 and nuts about cars, told me that that's the car I should get, based on his extensive research, much of which took place while he should have been doing homework.

At that time, I was driving a 1978 Trans Am (no decals), which I bought after the BMW 3.0CS that I bought from my brother had been totaled by tidal flooding during a winter storm in 1978; and I was ready to get back into something real. Plus I had just sold my business in NY and would no longer be a commuter. The concept of AWD appealed to me as well. So I bought the car that you're now restoring.

I drove the car regularly until 1992 or so, when I found a 1991 Carrera 4 that had been similarly owned by a dealer in the Midwest. By that time Justin was at the University of Montana in Missoula, and in a fit of generosity, I offered to let him take the Quattro out to school, where, not surprisingly, it was subjected to a hell of a beating, mechanically and otherwise. Eventually, I ransomed the Quattro by getting Justin a 2-door Tahoe, and brought the Quattro down to our office in Boise, where it sat for a number of years while I thought about fixing it up. Our company's fleet manager started it up regularly and drove it around Boise once or twice a month, but otherwise the car just sat in our covered parking lot. Justin had mentioned you guys at some point but I was hoping to find someone closer to here. However, after about a year of internet chatter, contacts with Audi Club folks on the east coast, it was clear that you guys really were where to go to get a top-notch restoration done. My experience with the ur Quattro led to getting my wife a Treser sedan, followed by an A6, along with other Audis for the kids. Justin currently owns an RS4, so despite the abuse he inflicted on the subject of our current project, he ended up a believer. Justin is getting married this fall in Carmel and I'm looking forward to showing up in the ur Quattro.

Our paint department circled all flawed areas.

All paint chips and dings were marked.

We removed the engine and began teardown and bodywork.

quattro paint The body was sanded to metal and our body shop hand reshaped the dings and damage. Only after the craftsmanship of the master body techs, the smallest amount of body filler is used.

Engine installed [AAN code 5cyl 20v turbo]. The original poorly designed hydraulic brake/ steering system replaced with updated components using 2B brackets and hoses. The brakes are now vacuum boosted like a new audi and we use modern power steering pumps.

2B Aluminum radiator with 2B fan system and 2B intercooler with 2B silicone hoses are some highlights.

2B modified RS2 airbox [with 2B Carbonfiber cover], 2B intake pipe, and 2B Carbonfiber radiator shroud. The air conditioning system is now modernized with updated rotary compressor and fully insulated components.

We installed Recaro power seats and redid the rest of the interior to match. [sorry, bad photo] The rear seats and door panels were custom covered to match the front Black leather Recaro seats. The top of the line seats are ultra adjustable.

Done. We even powder coated the wheels Alpine White. One more happy customer with a happy car.
